The United Arab Emirates is a constitutional federation of seven
Emirates formally established on the 2nd of December 1971. Abu Dhabi,
Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, Ajman Umm, al-Qaiwain, and Fujairah
make up the seven Emirates with Abu Dhabi as its capital.
The U.A.E. occupies an area of 83,600 square kilometers along the
southeastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, with Qatar lying to the
west, Saudi Arabia on the southern and western borders, and Oman
to the north and east.
With its renowned mountains, beaches, and deserts, the country is
one of the world’s fastest-growing tourist destinations, and provides
the perfect blend of old Bedouin lifestyle and a unique cosmopolitan
environment.
With the growth in tourism and the boom of the real-estate industry,
the United Arab Emirates today has emerged commercial center of
the Middle East.
About Dubai - Government
Formally established on the 2nd of December, 1971, the United Arab
Emirates was founded by His Royal Highness, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan
Al Nahyan. On the 3rd of November, 2004, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed
Al Nahyan was elected as President, following the death of Sheikh
Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who held the post from the foundation
of the State on 2 December 1971 until his death on 2 November 2004.
The Supreme Council meets at five-year intervals to reaffirm the
existing President or elect a new one.
The term of elected office for the Vice-President is also five years,
and the post is currently held by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, who was elected following the death of his brother, Sheikh
Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in early 2006.
